This week I’ve been having a lot of fun on Facebook connecting with new and familiar people and groups as I am spreading the word about the virtual conference I am hosting. I also was particularly inspired by conversations I had with Bryn Johnson and Christine Gallagher, both social media mavens in very different ways, about how they are using Facebook to connect, build relationships and expand their businesses. So I thought I would share an article about how to use Facebook that I wrote last year—with some updates since the terrain keeps changing.

Here are five of my favorite ways to make the best of Facebook for business.

    * Build your local business. If you have a locally-based business, like a hands-on healer, connect with other local businesses. Explore their pages if they resonate with you at all. Look to see who “likes” their business page, and consider sending them a friend invitation. I am amazed how many people from my small town and surrounding areas are on Facebook. When I did a local event last summer, I looked around at local businesses, and also other people who I knew who live nearby. I reached out and friended about 100 people over a week or so. I made some lovely new connections, and I also had new people show up at my event through my efforts. I could expand this quite a bit with more time and more focused effort.

   * Reach out to those you are interested in. You would be amazed at who is on Facebook and who you can connect with by reaching out to them. Go to their profile page and write something on their “wall.” Ask a question. Send a resource. Make an affirmation or an appreciation. People who could not otherwise reach directly are often accessible through Facebook. They read what people on write on their wall. They comment back. You can “speak” with experts in your field, or people you want to create partnerships with. Send them a friend request. Write them a message when they accept it. Then after you connect, take your conversation off-line into email or a phone call. I’ve add relationships move very quickly this way—try it!

    * Build your wider community with notes. You can write an article and post it to your “notes” section. You can repurpose the articles you write for your ezine (or that you’ve been thinking about writing for your ezine) in your notes section. You can then post various ideas from your article in your stream and inviting people to read your note. Have a call to action at the end of your note inviting people to get your free offer on your website so you can build your email list. Go to your friend’s profile pages and tell them about the note you just posted–choosing those for whom your topic would be particularly relevant and informative. Ask them to help you pass the word on to their friends if they feel inspired to do so.

    * Promote your virtual event or class. If you have an event, class or virtual retreat you are planning, you can create an event page. You can do this either through your profile page or your business page. I don’t find event invitations very effective, although you can certainly do that. More effective is posting your event in your own stream, and inviting other people to share it with their communities. I have directly asked key people to do that for me at times, and I have also casually asked in my stream for support spreading the word. You can also send people messages with an invitation to your event–these are usually more effective than event invitations, but also take more time to create.

    * Post a video with a call to action. I have also found posting a video that invites people specifically to the event or class to be quite effective. You can also use a video to invite people to get your free gift on your website. Many Facebook people are more interested in video and will check out at least the first minute or two to see what you are doing. Keep your video short and to the point, and make sure you are directing people to do something specific at the end.

I also like to have fun in a casual, friendly way, commenting on people’s status, making jokes in my own status, posting photos from events and my home. Facebook is a SOCIAL network–so it’s fun, and it pays, to be social.

And if we’re not friends yet on Facebook, please send me a request, write on my wall, say hello. I’ll write you back!

I don’t think I’ve ever shared about this before—not with you anyway. And getting ready for my upcoming virtual conference has brought this really up to the surface for me. That and something that Max Simon shared at his event last week.

Okay, so this conference I’m hosting is called: Six Figure Success without Selling Your Soul (www.sixfiguresuccesswithoutsellingyoursoul.com). And I’ve asked all the expert speakers to share about their lives, what they’ve had to go through, deal with, give up, understand—whatever—on the journey to creating a thriving six–figure business and beyond. Because I know, that as evolutionary entrepreneurs who are on the leading edge of the new economy and creating the New World, that it can get pretty sharp out on that edge. And also if you are just sensitive and aware at all, and you want to create a business and a life with integrity, you have to make real and sometimes difficult choices. Choices about what you’ll do, what you won’t do, how you’ll present and position yourself, what you’ll charge, what you can offer, what you can promise, etc. etc. etc.

And it’s a stretch if you are growing—and if you truly are contributing to creating a new economy and New World, because none of us know what the hell we’re doing. We’re making it up as we go along, we’re using proven techniques and ideas, and we are innovating like crazy because everything is moving so fast and changing so fast, and who the hell can keep up with all of it. Okay, b r e a t h e.

Over these last 17 months since I started Soul Signature Marketing, I have come head on with walls inside that I didn’t know were there. I didn’t know they were there until I ran into them—ouch! Some things I suspected, and others took me by surprise.

One of the most intractable for me has been appearance.

Now I know that might not sound edgy to you, but it really is for me. And even more edgy to share with you! But I’m offering it up because I suspect that I am not the only one for whom this is an issue.

I mean, learning to make sales calls, finding ways to meet and talk with new people, working hard to get my expertise out of my head and into written and audio formats—all that has been a big learning curve.

But the biggest curve has been on the inside. And where the edge shows up for me is appearance. Cause I grew up in the 1970s, with an English Professor for a father and a feminist activist for a mother, both of whom were suspicious of glamour and wealth. Better to be smart and respected than to be wealthy—that was the unspoken creed. And women who wore makeup, dressed in high heels, and were overly concerned about their appearance were not respected, not really. There was always a sense that they couldn’t be serious, couldn’t be of substance, had to be superficial through and through. At least that’s what I took in.

I am most comfortable in yoga clothes, barefoot, in the grass, with windswept hair.

And on this journey I have been upgrading my appearance—many of you have noted this approvingly if you’ve known me for awhile. I get the importance of it—even though I have this little voice saying, “oh, that is so superficial, how could you?” But I have to confess it’s been harder than I thought it would be. I find myself sabotaging myself sometimes out of habit or lack of focus. And I had a dream recently about missing a really important opportunity to speak because I was stuck in the house I grew up in, with no makeup, no hair dryer, and none of the right clothes.

The power of internal self image. Really powerful and persistent.

The thing that has helped the most? Painting with Shiloh McCloud. Learning to paint women’s faces, on canvas that is. Because now I can see that I’m painting my face, just like I am painting their faces. And it’s beautiful. It can be fun. Creative. Playful. Delicious even.

I just bought my first pair of serious high heels. And you know what? I loved wearing them. I thought I would hate it. I thought they would hurt my feet and make my back ache. But you know what? I loved wearing them and my body did not hurt at all.

This is truly a breakthrough for me, because the little girl inside of me has been thinking that putting on all that stuff (hair, makeup, clothes) is equivalent with selling my soul, inauthentic, out of integrity, yucky. And now, now, she’s having fun.

That might sound small to you, but to me it’s huge. Because I have to update that internal self image, or I will never grow beyond a certain place—and stay stuck in my old conditioning.

What part of your internal self-image needs upgrading? Are you willing?

In less than two weeks I am hosting an awesome virtual conference with over 15 seminars, entitled: Six Figure Success without Selling Your Soul. I decided to host this event because the beliefs that spirituality, success and money just do not mix are standing in the way of so many of you having the life that you truly want and deserve. It’s just not necessary, and it makes me angry!

Something like 98% of us grew up with money issues, because that’s how many of us didn’t get an education about how to really make money, how to manage it, and how to use it to create the lives we really want. And when the economy changes, as it has the last few years, those issues come right up. What you once relied on isn’t there anymore, not like it used to be anyway.

Big changes are afoot, certainly. I know many of you have been experiencing changes in your work and business lives. Jobs ending. Businesses struggling. Ways of doing things that once worked no longer getting the results that they once did. Knowing inside that you want so much to contribute, express yourself, make a difference and live in a better world—and seemingly running into walls, or at the edge of the cliff, pushed to your maximum.

I know exactly what this feels like because I have been through this, too. I was completely lost about how to get my first job, and I’ve had to learn everything I know about business outside of—and counter to—the culture of my family and first communities. And as a Soul Healer and Awakening Your Light Body Teacher I’ve really been on the edge, to say this least. It hasn’t been easy. It hasn’t been steady, certain, or reliable. Being on the leading edge isn’t comfortable—it isn’t meant to be. Because the leading edge is pressing into new terrain. And that’s just what’s happening now.

Everything changed for me when I started to really get the potency and potential of this moment in time. I’ve been hearing about the Shift of the Ages my whole life. Well, at least since the Fifth Dimension recorded and performed “Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In” in 1969. Even so it was less than two years ago that I began to get it. And part of that has meant being pushed to heal my money issues. It became no longer acceptable or tolerable not to fully live the principles that I professed to believe in. To live inside the old stories, instead of stepping into the new world age. It became intolerable.

Do you believe in the law of attraction, believe in an abundant universe and the benevolence of god/goddess or spirit, yet live in scarcity and struggle? Don’t be embarrassed. You are in very good company. But is that dissonance becoming intolerable to you, too? That’s what’s making things so HOT. The ideas, concepts, understandings even of the infinite, expanding nature of the universe—and the apparent lack all around you. Arrrrg.

Take a breath. And another. Because the more intense it gets, the closer you are to the shift. And you get to decide if you have to run out of your employment, or your unemployment, your business income, your savings, your alimony, or your inheritance, before you make the shift or not. I see so many people go right to the edge before they make a decision to let in what has always been available.

And sometimes, most times, you will need help to make that decision and stick to it. Or even see that the decision is available. I know I did. I needed the help of someone who had already made that decision and was living on the other side of it to help me see it and move through.

How far will you need to be pushed until you start to live the life you came here to lead? Until you agree to step into your true radiance and be fully, unabashedly, notoriously, yourself? Until you stop caring what other people think, and open to your own creativity, skills developed through lifetimes, genius, and inner guidance? Until you focus, simply, clarify, innovate, and bring forth your unique contribution to the new world now emerging? Until you turn away from what has been, and turn toward what is forming within and before you?

Because you are needed. You matter. And when you truly honor yourself—let go the doubts, the habits, the old stories—when you own yourself, when you become sovereign of your being—everything changes. When you grasp your part in this tremendous shift we are all in, everything changes. You become in command of the change, instead of at the mercy of it. That’s why business is soul work. Why business is spiritual work. Because it’s at the leading edge of the change. You choose.

· Are you a creative, spiritual entrepreneur who loves what you do and longs to break the six-figure mark – but is afraid that you’ll have to compromise yourself or what you believe in to do so?
· Do you know that marketing could help you to get your work out to the world in a bigger way, but worry that you’ll have to manipulate and convince people with hypey sales language that feels inauthentic and does not suit you?
If you answered “yes” to either of these, then please join me at a unique virtual conference, “Six Figure Success without Selling Your Soul.” I will be joining 18 others speakers who are all focused on the soul purpose of helping you really get some things that are absolutely critical to your life and your business:

· That success on your own terms is possible.
· That your intuition, vision, and creativity more than matter: they are essential.
· That you really can get clients and make serious money without compromising yourself or giving up what you value most in your life.
· That innovation is key to retooling the economy and creating the New World Age.
· That you can bring all of yourself to what you do, and that in doing so you will actually be far more successful in every way than you would be otherwise.

The line-up for this extraordinary event is too long to include here. And it includes some of the leading voices in authentic, soul-inspired, relationship-oriented marketing and business building. This conference is our gift to you, with absolutely no cost—and no selling and pitching, just pure content on every call.

Posted on the wall at my favorite acupuncturist’s office is a little sign that says:

There is one cause of disease: stagnation.
There is one solution: circulation.

Indeed, this is a law of the universe. Health, vitality, aliveness, abundance, joy, excitement, connection, appreciation, and so on are all signs of circulation. Energy is moving. Give and take are happening. There is flow. Everything in nature depends on movement, flow and circulation. Even inside of trees sap is running. And quantum physics is showing that even what you think of as solid matter is in fact moving (and mostly empty space—isn’t that a trip?).

It’s so interesting that when you feel like you don’t have enough, what do you tend to do? You tend to contract, pull in, conserve? If you lose money you thought you could count on, you cut back on your expenses. If clients leave, you cut back on your support. If you lose your job, you stop going out to dinner, maybe cut back on your food altogether.

On the one hand it might make sense, temporarily. Less money coming in, you want less money going out, right? Otherwise you will really be in a pickle. So you stabilize yourself. Determine what you’ve got, what you need, and make plans.

But if you stay in that contracted state for very long—even more than a few hours or days—stagnation sets in. Circulation has been cut off. Flow slows down and then stops. And over time this becomes your expectation and then your experience of life: not enoughness, scarcity, lack. And if it goes on for long enough it does create illness in the body. Unfortunately, it’s an epidemic.

The solution: a splurge! Something fun, pointless, even outrageous. Something just because you want to do it. Just because you want to have it. So often when you are contracted you long for something else, but you don’t allow yourself to have it. Because you think you don’t have the money. You don’t have the resources. It would be irresponsible to spend money on something “frivolous” (i.e. something other than what you need to survive). But then notice that your standard for living becomes what you need to survive—and that’s just the level at which you operate: survival.

Why a splurge and not a stretch? Well, for those who are in a contracted state, a splurge is a stretch! And yes stretching will help open the flow again. Yet a splurge has a special quality. A splurge is fun. It should make you smile, even giggle. It’s like: oooooo, I wanted that and now I get to have it????? Te he, te he!! Stretching often is not that pleasurable.

Doing something you have always wanted to do (Abraham would say it’s in your Vortex) will open up the flow of abundance. I know it sounds wonky from a logical point of view, but it makes total sense energetically. Longing pents up energy while action moves and directs it.

So what you can splurge on? It could be buying yourself flowers every week. It could be going out to a restaurant you’ve always wanted to go to. It could be taking the afternoon off from your business and going canoeing or riding on a ferris wheel or a pony. It could be taking a painting class, or baking (and eating) an outrageous cake, or buying an apple tree for your yard. It doesn’t have to start out big and expensive (although that can be very exciting)—it just has to be something you’ve been wanting and denying yourself. And enjoy!

Open to flow. Open to trust. Open to life-force energy. Open to Spirit. And watch what happens next.

Sacrifice is a loaded word, isn’t it? Probably the vestiges of a Christian culture. Sacrifice has become expected, resisted, and habitual all at the same time.

The more important question is:

WHAT are you sacrificing? And why?

Because in this time/space reality, in a physical body you have a certain amount of time and energy. It varies person to person, and by age and health. And I do think we’re all programmed to believe we have less of all of it than we actually do. Be that as it may, we live within certain parameters. And that means you can’t do everything! Try and desire as much as you might, it is simply not possible. You have to choose.

And that means letting some things go. And if it’s something you love, that means sacrifice.

So the question is: are you letting go of something of a lower nature to get something of a higher nature?

When I first heard that from Bob Proctor I wasn’t sure what it meant. I had an idea, but it wasn’t until I had experienced it that I really knew.

Experience is like that, isn’t it? It’s when you get it in your bones. All the way down in and it’s a knowing, no longer just a concept.

When I was teaching at Columbia I realized I was sacrificing my freedom and creativity out of desire to achieve, to be respected, to make a name for myself. I did love my work, my students, I did. But I was still sacrificing way too much.

Have you ever done that? Gotten good at something and then the next thing you know you’re in too deep, and you’re not sure you can get out. So you keep going, even though there’s a price?

I had to let that job go in order to make space for something else to come in, even though I had no frigging idea what that would be at the time. No idea. Then I met Proctor, and he put words to this. Still, it was when I actually resigned and turned my back on the career I had been building my entire life that I knew what it meant.

And when you’re building a business, you may have to sacrifice some of the things you love in order to do it. In fact, I can pretty much guarantee it. Because it takes your single-pointed focus, at least for periods of time. I know in this last year, my world has become my business, and my family. Other things come in and out as I have time and energy for them. I dance, do yoga, see friends. But launching and stabilizing Soul Signature Marketing has taken priority. I learned how to do that when I went to graduate school and had to have single pointed focus then as well. And the benefits are huge of that kind of concentration. Achievement, growth, impact, prosperity.

Then there comes another turning point where you have to re-assess and see what you’re sacrificing and why. For me right now I am bringing back in more self care, more time for creativity and art, more time listening to the wind in the trees. More space for something new to come in. What will be the next sacrifice so that I can emerge into the next phase of my life, my business, my contribution? Because I know there has to be one.

But I’m no longer afraid of sacrifice. And I also no longer am willing to do it habitually, unconsciously, in order try to show I’m okay or skilled or smart or whatever. Or least I’m working on it. That is simply not necessary or helpful.

What are you sacrificing? And why?

What are you willing to let go of in order to create and experience a deeper sense of why you are here, what you came to contribute, what you can receive, what your Soul is longing for? Will you give up your unworthiness? Your doubts about yourself? About support being available for you? Will you let go you habits of procrastination or blame? Will you begin to focus, fully, on what’s possible? Will you allow your perception to open, even more? Even more still?

If you do, you are not alone. It’s surprisingly common. I work with people a lot on developing their status as an expert. Through my Soul Signature work, you are able to identify, accept, embrace and express your gifts, talents, skills and experience from this and every other lifetime. It’s powerful work.

And what comes up often is this feeling of being a fraud. If people only knew! They would never actually want me, want to work with me—if I’m found out. This is what leads to hiding and invisibility. And the funny thing is, all this is typically unconscious. You don’t even know it’s there! But it’s going on underneath the surface, and it’s orchestrating your experience without your conscious consent.

One of the cool things about the Soul Signature work is that it flushes this stuff up to the surface. Because when you begin step into the richness of who you actually are, the conditioning that would hold you back from that becomes more active. That conditioning can take the form of Survival Archetypes, whose sole purpose is to keep you safe. They have different strategies for doing that, but they all involve protection, and often include hiding out. So that’s part of it.

But today I want reveal to you something even deeper and older. This might stretch the believability of some or you—and that’s okay by me. Stay with me if you will.

Because in my work with clients for almost ten years, I have seen a pattern among people drawn to the healing arts and coaching fields in particular. People like you. And especially, but not exclusively, women.

And that’s residue from past lives of persecution as strong, outspoken women, healers, intuitives, midwives, heads of households and communities. Historically as many as 10 million women (and men) over a period of a few centuries were persecuted and murdered as part of the eradication of earth-based spiritually and the enforcement of patriarchal in Europe. Shocking, isn’t it?

The residue of those experiences continues to reside in the energetic fields of many people today. One of the ways it shows up, is in the fear of visibility and the desire to hide. Oftentimes you don’t even know why you have this fear, you just do. I was working with a client just two days ago, and this was the case for her. In a brief inward process, we were able to identify a key decision that she made in a previous life time that has been orchestrating her experience ever since.

That decision was: I made a mistake so I must be a fraud. Harm was caused to myself and others. From now on, I will hold back, not make waves, stay safe. It’s better to hide and not be seen.

I guided her through making a new decision, and she had an immediate transformation of her energy, her vitality, and her sense of possibility. I’ve seen this countless times. Given the right container, change can happen very quickly.

The Good News is that this truly is the time of Awakening in which all the traumas of the past can be released, once and for all. That’s part of the reason this moment in time is so friggin’ intense—because the roto-rooter of evolution is pushing all of us to heal and stretch to unprecedented heights of awareness.

Chances are, if you are feeling like a fraud, that is very old news. You can make a new decision, right now, today, to let that conditioning go.

You can choose to Step into Your Soul Signature, and do what you came here to do. With that come the impact, income, and lifestyle you have always wanted, and deserve.

Because you are not a fraud. You are an expert just waiting to express herself.

If you want to change your circumstances, you will need to make some changes. Sounds obvious, but you’d be surprised how often people think they can change their circumstances without changing themselves, their environment, or who they spend time with.

Did you know that your income is the average of the income of your ten best friends, or the ten people with whom you spend the most time? Income is a great indicator because it’s something you can actually measure—as opposed to other less tangible markers.

This is not to make anyone bad or wrong—it’s to raise awareness. Because most people tend to hang around with people with whom they feel comfortable—which means they are often at a similar level of success, income, and life satisfaction as they are. So think about it: who do you spend most of your time with? And how does that feel to you? You might call that a “comfort zone,” because what’s familiar is comfortable just because it’s known.

I like to call it a pain zone or stagnant zone, because very often you are staying in a way of life, at an income level, or in a relationship that really isn’t what you want—but it’s familiar, and you like having other people around to whom it is also familiar. You are in (often unconscious, but not always) agreement about how life is, about money, about work or business, and about relationships. And you co-create a similar reality, often without realizing it.

And if you want this to change, you have to change—inside and out.

So seek out people who inspire you. Because if your life and your business aren’t just the way you want them to be, and if you’re not as prosperous as you would like, then you need to spend time with people who have already mastered what you want.

I know that as I did that with my business—when I committed to really go places I had never been before, I had to seek out people who had gone there before me. I had done this before as a graduate student—I found a great mentor who helped me tremendously. And when I joined Nikken, the holistic health network marketing company that was my first real business, I did so because I hooked up with people who really knew that business. And when I went into the healing arts, I sought out and found the best healers to teach and mentor me.

Yet somehow when it came to building my healing practice I thought I could do it myself. I think that is partly because that’s the model for many healers: you get trained in your modality, then sent off to figure the business part out by yourself. Only that’s a whole additional skill set and mindset. So I did it mostly on my own—and I did well considering. But to really get it, I had to find people who already knew it. And that’s when everything changed.

So find people who have gone where you want to go. Seek out higher-level thinkers, people with bigger incomes and successful businesses. Be willing to ask for support, to learn, to stretch, and to take in the vibration of people you admire. And be willing to be uncomfortable doing so. Because the truth is that change will challenge you to do things differently, to feel different, to expand your mind, to shed your conditioning. And that is not always easy. Sometimes it’s downright terrifying—at first.

I am reflecting on this as I have just completed a Mastermind retreat with a group of people I’ve been working with for almost two years. A few of the people have changed, but for the most part the group is the same. And the growth is incredible. Everyone’s revenue has increased, most of us are six or multiple-six figure earners, and one of our number is about to have her first seven-figure year. Being a part of this group has inspired and pushed me in ways that have been uncomfortable, creative, exciting, and enlivening. I am so grateful for this experience!

Seek those who inspire, excite, and challenge you. Be willing to be uncomfortable! Stop tolerating the ways you’ve made your discomfort okay, and do what you came here to do. Find people whose very presence will change you in a positive way. Today. Do it today.

So many people that I speak with are passionate about the world, the environment, about children or animals, about healing, spiritual growth, about what they want to see stop happening, and what they want to see manifest.

They have a message. But is it being heard?

One of the coolest things about having a business is that it enables you to share your message. Because business at its best—business for the New World Age—is the highest form of self expression. It’s a vehicle for you to make your contribution, provide service, create the life that you really want to live, and make money so that you extend your reach beyond your physical presence. It gives you resources, and leverage, and a Village of people who are interested in what you have to say.

What many people do not understand is that sharing your message effectively, is a two-way street. It means knowing how to communicate in a way that other people can hear what you are sharing. Yes, you need to take a stand. Yes, you need to speak about what you believe in. But if you do it in a way that makes people wrong, they won’t want to listen to you. Inspiration is very different from coercion.

Most of us were raised in a pretty coercive environment. What that means you may get confused between knowing what is forcing yourself on other people, and what is expressing yourself. And if you are like most people, you err on the side of being more quiet and under cover than expressive. If can’t say something nice, then don’t say anything at all. Or maybe when you do speak up, you overdo it because you think you have to because that’s the only way the message will get out. Well, that doesn’t work either, does it?

How do you speak up so that other people can hear you? You have to listen to your people. And you have to speak your truth from your heart. And between the two, you create an alchemy that is only yours to give.

There’s a trust factor here. Trust in yourself. And their trust in you. Trust that you can communicate well and effectively with your people. And trust that you develop with them—so that they will actually listen to you—not just hear you, but actually listen.

Listen for the words they use. Listen for what they say is important to them. Listen to where the stress and strain is from their perspective. As the expert, you do know things and have a perspective that they do not. That’s a key reason you can help them. But if they don’t believe you understand them, then they won’t listen.

This is such an interesting, powerful dance! And so worth exploring, practicing, listening, speaking, moving into and around. The blessed connection between you and your people—what they want and need, and what you offer. Who you are, who they are, who she is, who he is, who you are together.

That’s why you have to talk with people. You cannot define your message in a vacuum and expect anyone to hear it. You have to interact because a message is meant to communicate, not just express.

Who will you talk with this week? Who will you listen to? What will you say? What will be the particular alchemy between you, and what will be communicated? It is upon this that your business, your impact, and your income are created.

You have a message. A very important message, because it’s yours. Your message is different and special because it is unique to you. There will only ever be one of you forever. Isn’t that an astonishing thought? Even though you may have heard this many times before, stop for a moment to feel how profound that truth is. Take a big breath, and notice what comes up for you and how your body feels when you allow yourself to take that in.

For entrepreneurs, your message is key. It’s how people know you, what you’re offering, what distinguishes you, and why someone would want to buy from you. In your marketing you focus on getting your message out so that you can provide the products and services that are the core of your business. Traditionally the message of marketing was not the same as your message, your unique message. But all that is changing now.

We are in the midst of an entrepreneurial explosion arising from the demise of the old order. It’s a turbulent, challenging, provocative time. You get to decide if it’s exciting or frightening. Fear and excitement are the same energy, the same intensity, interpreted differently. Excitement can be accessed when you turn your attention to your message. Because now, more than ever before in the past, you are able to combine your message, and the message of your marketing, into your unique business. This is how you can contribute to retooling the economy around that which truly matters.

So what’s your message? If you feel stuck knowing what your message is, you are in good company. That’s because you may have been told as a child not to think of yourself as special, not to be different, to fit in, to learn the ropes, to play the game, to toe the line, to make your way in the world based on the experience and knowledge of your parents and your teachers. And hey, of course they were doing the best they knew how to do for you given their experience and their perspective. And they wanted to train you to be capable and safe in the world as they knew it. But the world we’re living in now is not the world they grew up and came of age in. It’s not even the world you grew up. Because everything is changing.

Or maybe you were told you were special, and had an affirmative upbringing, and yet still, you don’t really know what makes you special. Other people probably had their ideas about what that means. And even the very idea of “special” means that you are separate, different, better than, and that might not have sat well with you. I mean, who wants to be special if it means you’ll be on the outside? Some people are able to take that idea and run with it, but for others it’s not very appealing. There can a lot of baggage around that word and that feeling.

Whatever your experience, know that your message is special, your message is needed. Because now is the time of awakening. And awakening means owning yourself. Truly owning and taking responsibility for yourself, your life, your business, and your relationships. Knowing that you have value. And when you connect that with the heart of your business—whether your business is a glimmer in your eye or something you’ve been doing for years—when you connect your deepest self, your message, and your marketing, you’ve got a powerful combination. And you are needed. Your message is needed. The quiet persistent voice within you has something very important to say. And your wisdom is needed as we step into a New World Age.
